Pick of the Week: Online News Mergers

AOL is acquiring The Huffington Post for a reported $315 million. The deal is part of AOL’s strategy to expand its news gathering and online advertising. In recent years, AOL created Patch.com a series of local websites dedicated to specific towns.

The Daily Beast is an online news reporting and opinion website founded and published by Tina Brown, former editor of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker. It launched on October 6, 2008. On November 12, 2010, The Daily Beast and Newsweek announced a merger deal, creating the combined company. Here is the blog post announcing the deal.
