Three More Ways to Make News More Interactive and Collaborative

Three concepts and terms you should know…

Crowdsourcing – Using a online community or group of people to report a story.

WNYC radio has been experimenting with this for a few years and has used this approach to report on stories about price gouging and the economy.

Open-Source Reporting – Applying concept of “open source” to journalism to produce more transparent and useful news products.

HelpMeInvestigate solicits story ideas and input from readers. In turn, the founders offered the code to their website so others could use it.

Pro-am journalism – Allowing audience to publish directly to same platform or website that professional journalist use.

CNN iReport is one of the best known examples.
