Find a relevant and compelling person with something to say about your topic. Have a backup plan.
Prepare and research your questions. Do an in-person interview with your audio recorder/cellphone. Note: Phone conversations won’t yield quality audio.
Photograph your subject. Make sure your photo is clear, in focus, and that we can see the person’s face.
Edit your audio interview to a maximum of two (2) minutes. It is OK if your questions are heard, but it is probably best to only hear subject because that way they get more time and focus.
Write up a short introduction to your post. (Who is the person? Why is she/he someone we should hear from? What does she/he have to say? Tease your audio. Your text should motivate your reader to listen to the audio. Include hyperlinks to text for more information.)
Post your text introduction, a photo of the subject, and your edited audio interview in a single blog post. Write a compelling headline that includes your subject’s name and uses descriptive key-words.

Follow these step-by-step instructions for getting your audio from your device to your blog.
- Descriptive headline using key words and person’s name. Well written text that introduces subject and compels reader to listen to audio. (5 points)
- Original reporting and effort in tracking down a compelling subject to interview (i.e. roommates and friends are lowest on effort scale) (10 points)
- Content of edited audio (Is it compelling, relevant, worth hearing, sharing?) (10 points)
- Quality of the recording (Is it clear and audible?) (10 points)
- Quality of the editing (Under 2 minutes. Is the editing clean, allowing pauses between soundbites, with beginning middle and end?) (10 points)
- Quality photograph of subject with proper credit. (5 points)
